Overview: Mood disorders often coexist with metabolic problems such as insulin resistance and inflammation. Emerging evidence suggests that low carbohydrate and ketogenic diets, which help stabilize glucose, may support brain health by supplying alternative fuel (in the case of ketogenic diets), reducing oxidative stress, and improving neurotransmitter balance. Continuous glucose monitoring provides objective data that can further assist patients in maintaining stable glucose levels.
Goal: To examine the connection between mood disorders and metabolic health, and to explore emerging dietary and monitoring strategies that may support treatment.
Objectives : By the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:
-
Describe the links between insulin resistance, inflammation, and mood disorders.
-
Explain how low carbohydrate and ketogenic diets may influence brain function and mood.
-
Recognize the role of continuous glucose monitoring in supporting glucose and mood stabilization.
